Fore Family
Located 3,000 ft high above Lake County on the top of Cobb Mountain, Fore Family Vineyards is truly a family affair. Jim Fore and his family have been farming this high-altitude 17 acre vineyard since 2000. The vineyard is made up of volcanic soil and produces beautiful mountain Mourvèdre and Grenache with vibrant color and notable structure. Extreme temperature variations between daytime and nighttime hours created a unique expression of California sunshine.
Nelson Family
The Nelson family has been farming their vineyard in Hopland, California for over 60 years. Herman and Clara Nelson moved to Mendocino County in 1952 and started their farm in a beautiful corner of Mendocino. Now Greg their son, and his sons Tyler and Chris, care for the vineyard, which includes Riesling planted in 1974, as well as many other varietals. In addition to high quality grapes, the family also produces plums, apples, strawberries, and wheat - bringing balance and harmony to the land.
Alder Springs
A true gem in northern Mendocino county, this vineyard includes over 1300 acres containing a wealth of varietals, elevations, and terroir. After careful study and traveling the world to interview growers and winemakers, Stuart Bewley decided on Alder Springs as a place to grow premier wines with a sense of innovation. We source an astounding mix of different varietals from Alder Springs, including: Counoise, Furmint, Grenache, and Syrah. Their sense of place, and Bewley’s passion for experimentation makes them ideal companions for our winemaking style at Benevolent Neglect.
Windmill
Gravelly alluvial soils and organic farming make this vineyard a special addition to Yolo county. This warm climate site is perfectly suited for our Italian Vermentino varietal and our Counoise Red and Rosato wines. Usually the first picks of the year, Windmill yields exuberant, bright wines with good acidity and plenty of “glou glou.” We’ve partnered with Sergio to plant Counoise, Greco, and Vermentino and are ecstatic with the delicious and fresh certified organic wines that have resulted from this partnership.
